Congratulations go out to the Savannah Shamrocks men who captured the Bowl Championship at the Memorial Day 7’s in Charleston, SC. After a tough opening game loss to host team, Charleston, by 2 points the team again faced a tough Gold Diggers (Charlotte, NC) team and again came up short. After being slotted into the Bowl division bracket for the afternoon knockout game the boys came out with renewed vigor. The men won after 8 minutes of sudden death overtime Savannah came out on top over Wando Alumni in the Bowl Semi-Final game. The Championship game was a one-sided affair as Savannah went on to dominate Ft. Bragg and claim hardware in their first 7’s tournament of the season.
The Women’s team played well all day and came up short of claiming any hardware at the Memorial Day 7’s and finished 4th in the tournament. A lot of women new to the game of 7’s gained valuable experience and it showed as they played better and better rugby throughout the day. A controversial end to the game against Charleston proved to be the difference in the team finishing 3rd or 4th. Both teams look to take advantage of the experience as the men prepare for the upcoming GRU 7’s in Athens on June 1 and the women get ready for the GreenVegas 7’s in Greenville, SC on June 8.
