The Savannah Shamrocks will host the Athens Eagles for the second consecutive year in the Georgia Rugby Union (GRU) Championship game. The game will be played at Daffin Park with a 1:00pm kickoff scheduled. This game features a rematch of last years GRU Championship game that won narrowly in the final minute of the game by Savannah 29-28. Savannah’s 2015 season featured an 9-0 regular season, including a victory over the Eagles in Athens on March 28 by a score of 30-17. Savannah’s regular season included victories over #2 Athens on the road, #3 High Country on the road and #4 Old White at home. Athens completed their regular season with a 6-3 record and clinched the #2 seed in the final week of the regular season. Both teams have advanced through the semi-finals and are hoping to punch their ticket to the Southern Conference Final Four to be played in Augusta, Georgia the weekend of May 16-17. In doing so they will join Clinch River (winners of the True South), Gainesville (winners of Florida) and Cape Fear (winners of the Carolinas).
