The women of Savannah/Charleston traveled for their second match of the season to Augusta, Georgia to take on the Augusta Furies in freezing wet game. The game saw sloppy ball handling from both teams after torrential downpours made the field conditions muddy and borderline unplayable. It was not until the 36th minute of the 1st half when the Savannah/Charleston flyhalf, Beth Drzymalski, was able to score a try in the corner (unconverted) making the score 5-0. The remainder of the 1st half saw continued pressure by both teams without the ability of either team to take advantage given the freezing temperatures and wet ball.
Halftime Score: Savannah/Charleston 5 – Augusta Furies 0
The second half saw play very similar to the first half. Four separate yellow cards saw the Furies playing much of the 2nd half with fewer women on the field than the women from Savannah/Charleston; however, strong defense and handling errors refused to allow capitalization on the advantage. In the 79th minute a yellow card was issued to winger, Franco Vasquez, giving Augusta a woman advantage for the first time in the game and with no time left on the clock were able to keep possession after several successful rucks and scored in the gap, making the score 5-5. With the pressure on and the game having been played with several minutes of extra time the Augusta Furies were able to convert with the pressure on and steal a win away from the women of Savannah/Charleston making the final score 5-7.
